As thrilling as it sometimes was, the Ben & Mat Show of a few years ago tended to put the rest of the Superbike field in the shade. It's probably safe to assume next week's AMA Pro Road Racing competition at Daytona International Speedway will be more closely fought at the front of the pack.

Scenes from last year: V.I.R.
AMA Pro Racing visits Virginia International Raceway again this weekend. With the Daytona SportBike championship coming down to the wire and Mat Mladin (presumably?) in a mood to dominate, it promises to be a good racing weekend. I'll kick things off with some photos from last year, starting with a couple things we won't see this year.
Jamie Hacking on a Superbike

Ben Spies on anything
But we will likely see some good racing . . .
. . . and surfboards in south-central Virginia

Can't wait!

Barber Motorsports is Located in Birmingham, AL
Just so we're clear on this.

Right. It rained a fair bit . . .

. . . and the crowd didn't exactly bring Jerez to mind . . .

. . . but the racing was good . . .

. . . and the fast guys put on a good show as always.

Don't be a "Die Easy" fan (thanks Mat!)

Better late than never . . .
AMA Pro Racing from Road Atlanta
As I prepare to leave for this weekend's racing at the incomparable Barber Motorsports Park I thought I would (finally) put up a few photos from the previous round at Road Atlanta. It was my first race of the year and my first taste of the "new" AMA. The scene was indeed a little different . . .

. . . but in important ways it was much the same:

Okay, so some more competition for Mladin would be welcome. Maybe Blake Young?

Josh Hayes?

Ben Bostrom was quick at the Sears Point test--maybe he and Jefferson found something?

Mladin's probably not too worried.

Roll on Barber!
